How we work

Our promise

findlio exists for one reason: to save readers the hours we already spend comparing products. Every guide on this site is researched, ranked, and written to be useful — not to hit a word count, fill a keyword slot, or sell a particular brand.

We follow the spirit of Google's helpful-content guidelines: people-first content, demonstrable experience or rigorous research, and substantive value beyond what a price-comparison feed could give you.

Five operating principles

01

Pick first, link second

We choose the recommendation on its merits. The affiliate link is added afterwards. If a winner doesn't have an affiliate program, it still wins.

02

No sponsored placements

We don't accept payment, free product, or any other incentive in exchange for inclusion, ranking, or favourable language.

03

Show our work

Every verdict references what we compared, why our pick wins, and where it falls short. Vague praise isn't a recommendation.

04

Sources you can check

Where we cite specs, prices, or reviewer counts, we link to the source so you can verify them — or notice when they've changed.

05

Fix what we get wrong

Errors get corrected on the page with a dated note. We'd rather be the site that admits it was wrong than the one that quietly edits and pretends it wasn't.

How we research a pick

For every product on this site we go through roughly the same process:

  1. Map the field. Identify the 5–15 credible contenders in the category from buying guides, subreddits, YouTube reviewers we trust, and category-specific forums.
  2. Compare specs head-to-head. Build a spec sheet covering the dimensions readers actually care about (not just what the brand puts on the box).
  3. Cross-check with verified buyers. Read at least 50 verified purchase reviews per finalist across multiple retailers, prioritising critical (3-star and below) reviews to surface real failure modes.
  4. Stress-test the claims. Where we own the product or can borrow one, we use it. Where we can't, we triangulate against long-form independent reviews from people who have.
  5. Rank and write. The winner gets a verdict in plain language: who it's for, what it does well, what it doesn't.

What goes on the list

A product earns a spot on findlio when it meets all of these:

  • It outperforms its direct competitors on the dimensions readers care about.
  • It is currently available to buy in major markets at a price that matches its value.
  • The brand is responsive enough that warranty claims actually get answered.
  • We would buy it ourselves if we needed one.

When a category has no product that clears that bar, we leave the slot empty. Filler isn't a feature.

Updates & corrections

Picks are reviewed at least twice a year and when major triggers occur: a successor product launches, a current pick is discontinued or significantly redesigned, or readers report a consistent issue we missed.

If we discover an error — a wrong spec, an outdated price, a broken claim — we correct it on the page and add a dated note acknowledging the change. We don't silently edit.

Who writes findlio

findlio is written by one editor with a spreadsheet and strong opinions about what “worth your money” actually means. No co-authors, no ghost team, no AI generating the verdicts.

bendy

Started findlio after one too many buying guides that read like press releases. Reviews everything spec-for-spec, reads the one-star Amazon reviews before the five-stars, and only writes a verdict for products that would actually go on bendy’s own desk, in bendy’s own bag, or under bendy’s own kitchen cabinet.

Reach bendy at cad.bendy.bu@gmail.com.

The buck stops with bendy. If something on the site doesn’t meet the standards on this page, that’s a problem bendy wants to know about — and fix.

AI usage

We use AI tools the way most modern editors do — for fact checking, surfacing comparable products, drafting outlines, and tightening prose. We do not publish AI-generated reviews, AI-generated verdicts, or AI-generated rankings. The recommendation and the reasoning behind it are always a human decision.
